The Summer of Music So, I've spent almost $1000 on tickets to 3 shows (by way of contrast, $1000 is what 2 season tickets to the L.A. Kings costs me each year):
Rush at the Nokia Theater in May (orchestra near the sound board)
The Police at the Hollywood Bowl also in May (the last section with actual seats...and hopefully a waitress)
Radiohead at the Hollywood Bowl in August (the first section without seats...but tickets on Ebay are already at $2000/seat...geez, it ain't the frikkin' Beatles!)
I love the Bowl because I can walk there and not have to deal with the impossible parking situation (and I can stop at the Hollywood Renaissance bar on the way there and back!).
I paid the full price for "In Rainbows" (which is actually worth the money and their best since "OK, Computer" IMHO). I was planning on remixing and submitting "Nude" but I like the mix as it is and...frankly, I have more pressing things (new DV record and my second solo effort). I do, however, think it might be cool to do a whole record of remixes of "Parlour"....maybe "Parlour: reimagined" or something like that (it's our only record that I have all the raw files for on my computer...I'd love to remix/re-record a lot of our stuff).
BTW, "Demos & Diaries" (the interview/demo cd we did for the Bronzers Reunited party) will be available soon and for a limited time on CDBaby.com. I'll keep ya in the loop.

The Day the Music Died Yesterday was the 14th anniversary of when they found Kurt Cobain's body. Seems like only yesterday (damn, I remember seeing Nirvana at the Forum only 5 months earlier). I was the first at the record store I worked at to hear the news. Nirvana was the "punk rock Beatles".
I think that No Doubt is the only legit hyped band since. The industry is dead. The music lives! Viva la revolution!
I'm all about the Nirvana listening at this early/late hour.

Thanks for the vibes! Things are looking better…nothing has actually changed except my perception but that’s all reality (mostly) is anyhow. Thanks to all for the well-wishes and, if I can make it through the next week with a measure of moderation, things will be looking pret-ty shiny on the other side!

vibes, prayers, etc. Friends,
If you have any extra karma, vibes, etc. could you send it my way? Life should be awesome but my continuing battle with the bottle is sending it south in a real fast kind of way. I won't burden you with specifics, but I need to get a handle on this (I'm fast approaching 40 and it's not so fun or funny anymore).
Thanks in advance and sorry to be a whiner.

Better So I managed to catch Captain Trips but live to tell the tale (though 5 days of fever can't have been a good thing) so I'll be catching up in the next week or so with posting replys, etc.
I need to take good care of myself to be able to fight this kind of stuff in the future....viruses are still the top of the food chain.

BRP The Bronzers Reunited party went well. About 100-150 attendees I was told. The El Rey is pretty big so it’s hard to judge numbers….and I had to look at my fingers as my monitor mix included everything but my vocals and guitar (nothing new)! It was great to see all who came out and a fun night to begin my “Vegas training”.
It was fun to play with the old gang again and I’m glad we finally got some sense of closure as DV (version 1.5) had just faded away without any fanfare (version 1 was our original bassist and cellist in my eyes). After a break (because I’ve been busting my rear/spending money on the different incarnations of what this show became), I’ll be psyched to ramp up to DV (version 2.0…Cami and I with machines). Great to see/hear Four Star Mary play and learn the fate of our old rehearsal space (fire marshal closed it down!).
Only 2 regrets for the night: 1) Our original bassist, Atto, was not able to make it to town to play a couple of songs as he’d thought he might. 2) I passed out without being able to say goodbye to my new friends (I managed to sober up and write “safe trip” emails to some of my long-time buds). This is why I’m in “training” for Vegas….I hadn’t really been drinking too much in the weeks before while preparing for the show so my “eyes were bigger than my liver” and I can’t afford to get on a roll and then pass/black-out at the tables! Of course, once I return from Vegas, I have to pull the handbrake on my drinking/not working out….or die! (I’m not getting any younger).
Overall, a great time! Wish more of you guys could’ve come and wish I could’ve spent more time while those who came were here!

Contrarian To keep up my tradition of going against what everyone else does, here are POSITIVE thoughts on the candidates:
Hillary: I could get behind a woman President (no joke there...but you DO know me too well). Gender should really not be an issue in government and I like that it will put a finger in the eye of the backward nations of the world to have to deal with an unveiled woman. It will inspire young women to achieve greatness. Also, she's seen how it works on the inside.
Barack: Race isn't an issue for me but it IS for a lot of people. I like that it will upset the racists out there and that it will inspire others to achieve greatness. He's got the "it" factor that is needed in such a high-profile public figure. Big points for denouncing Louis Farrakhan.
McCain: The most qualified to be commander-in-chief and a real American hero. His military record is most impressive and he has a history of "reaching across the aisle". He's a big supporter of the Space Program. Ann Coulter hates him....big points right there! ;-)
Whoever wins will be the first senator elected President since JFK (and only the second in history...Harding was the other). edit: scary, both men died in office (obviously, I knew about JFK). Hope none of these peeps are superstitious.

Sweet Month So far, my Birth month celebrations will include a Foo Fighters show, a Linkin Park show, 3 nights (free) in Las Vegas, a Don Rickles show (in Vegas), and probably a trip to see the family.
Hmm, that leaves 24 days....what to do? What to do?

What a Wiki-ful world Random wiki-ness at work today:
I learned what the Federal Funds rate is and how it affects the Prime rate...and therefore, my credit card bills.
I learned that California has about 6 million more people than Canada...but only 2 fewer NHL teams.
My band's page has some interesting (and incorrect) things on it. I'm led to believe it's inappropriate to change one's own wikipedia listing, however.
I read up on the New Deal and Great Society. Good intentions pave the way to hell, indeed.
I learned that there is no wiki page for me.
I especially learned that I now have "that job"....the one where there are days when you have time to goof off on the internet while being paid! I was always jealous of "those people" with "that job". ;-)

Tagged....but I shall not Tag list 7 habits/quirks/facts about yourself:
1) I would rather make 3 right turns than 1 left 2) I would consider myself a small "l" libertarian....that party has no chance, though. 3) I would personally "rather be dead than wed" or "better dead than Dad" but I really enjoy/respect the vicarious wedded bliss/parenthood of others. 4) I don't believe in god/ufo's/ghosts but I really wish all were real. 5) I wanted to be a drummer when I was a kid (I actually was in high-school marching band) 6) I have never had stage-fright 7) I have a tested 178 IQ and scored in the top 1% on the SAT when I was in 11th GRADE. I drink to kill enough brain cells to be "normal"....because smart people are usually the first against the wall.

Too late to save the music industry but may just make it possible for the film/TV business to avoid the same fate.
With current technology, you can make something that sounds like a real record at home by yourself (well, I can't...yet....soon...recording is a dark art all unto itself) but you'll always need a certain budget and some sort of crew to make something that looks like a real movie. This won't stop piracy completely, but it's a start.

I guess it's now official Darling Violetta will be performing at the Bronzers Reunited event in Los Angeles on Feb. 16th.
This will be the first appearance of the group in 4 years and seems fitting in this season of reunions (Genesis, The Police, Van Halen).
This will be the only appearance of Darling Violetta in 2008 and the last as a "band" for the foreseeable future.
